Overview of the RCC Prestige II
Amana RCC Prestige II is a 12 SEER remote cooling unit with matching evaporator coils, although reportedly can reach up to 13.3 SEER when paired with high-efficiency blower motors. The Prestige II has a cooling capacity of 18,000 to 60,000 BTU/hour.
The RCC Prestige II features a simple design for easy installation in new or existing homes. The manufacturer promises quick installation and maintenance with easily accessible controls and service valves, and a two-direction service panel door and plenty of interior room for installing and removing parts. The condenser fan with vertical air discharge contributes to that flexible installation, and to the unitís low operation noise and high efficiency.
Additional components of this model include a high-efficiency compressor with built-in overload protection and refrigeration-grade copper tubing and aluminum fin coils. The exterior is protected by corrosion-resistant cabinets that go through a six-step process intended to ensure a durable, smooth finish.

"17 summers and still chillin'"
Granted, our Amana central A/C unit was installed July 1999 -- right after we purchased our home. But seeing the posted problems some more recent owners have experienced, I wanted to praise the workhorse Amana unit that thankfully is still cooling our home. We purchased a 10-year Extended Service Agreement but in 17 years we've had one very minor service call that was handled in 30 minutes. My guess is this: Amana was sold shortly after our purchase, and perhaps their quality assurance has suffered. My unit was manufactured in Amana's Fayetteville, TN Certified ISO9001-compliant manufacturing plant. But did subsequent management changes move production elsewhere, or alter the quality of the condensing coils? Or has training for the installers suffered as a cost-reduction move? Hard to say. I can only thank the company for making a great, durable A/C system back when we shopped.

Moved into my new home 8 yrs ago. From day one there has been nothing but problems with the a/c unit, to no air circulating in different parts of the house, constant need of repairmen month after month. Still waiting for the issues to be resolved.

"NOISY OUTDOOR UNIT"
Very noisy outdoor compressor/heat exchanger unit. It's my opinion that inexpensive units like this Amana which the builder installed is noisier than more expensive units, but I don't have a way of comparing apples and apples.

Troubleshooting posts on fixya.com revealed consumers dealing with system failures, frequent component replacement, and general performance quirks such as unknown error codes or inconsistent performance.
Faulty installation, consumersearch.com notes, is often the cause of these reoccurring issues. The site suggests ensuring a contractor is properly trained and qualified to install that particular unit and brand.
