"Amana AC warranty is not good"
I installed two Amana Distinction heating/AC units at the same time, one was a heat pump and the other was not. Both started having issues at year four after installation and should have had 10-year warranties. One required a new cooling coil, which was covered by warranty; the second unit had the fan and circuit board fail and Amana refused to honor the warranty even though both were installed at the same time. Repeated attempts to get Amana customer service to respond failed. Their local service rep was timely however they tried to charge me 100% markup on the fan and circuit board. Amana will never get my business again.

"Very dissatisfied!"
Unit is five years old, we have had two compressors fail and the evaporator coil leak. The unit is very unreliable and prone to break. Horrible warranty support from Amana/Goodman as well! We will never have another Amana AC product! Buyer beware.

"Horrible experience"
I bought this unit in 2009. In 2014 the coil went out, it was under warranty, but to wait for the time to get the part and pay for the Freon - they used r-22, which is very expensive - it cost me a few thousand dollars before the fix was complete. In June of this year, less than one year later, I needed 5 pounds of Freon again, and today I returned home and yet, again, it is not working. I will be calling Trane and get a real piece of equipment like my neighbor bought. Please do not go for the price, this is unacceptable and the equipment is sub-standard.

"The worst AC unit"
We have owned our brand new home for less than 3 years, we have had our AC unit repaired 4 times already. From the condenser, drip pan, relay, now the fan motor! They have repaired it 3 times in the last 4 months. It is noisy. Do not purchase a home that has one of these units. When asking the AC company why his company even carries this piece of crap, is it for job security, all the repair men say the same thing - it is a junk unit but the builders want the cheapest. I plan on replacing the unit soon, what I will pay in repairs I will end up saving with a Carrier or Trane.

"Very, very unhappy!"
I have been having issue with this air conditioning system freezing up. I built my home in 2008 and had to replace the coil 3 years later. I was told they used copper coils and they were replacing the copper coils with aluminum coils and that would fix my problem. Well, 3 1/2 years later I'm having the same problem. Now the same company that installed the unit and replaced the coil is telling me the new coil has gone bad too. I've paid out over $1,500.00 in repairs on this unit and I still can't use my air conditioner without it freezing up. The builder, Southern Homes, and the manufacturer need to be held responsible for the issues we're having with these units. I'm very upset and I still have to send more money to either replace the coil again or the unit.

"Horrible AC Unit"
I do not know the exact type of Amana AC unit I have, but it states Distinctions Amana. I lived in my starter home for 10 years, and even though my AC Unit ran non-stop, it never broke down. Six years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to move to a larger home built by Highland Homes and was very excited. The home has been great, minus the AC unit by Amana. In my six years of living at this house, today 08/23/14(two days before school starts) my AC Unit went out again and this will be the sixth service call to Houk on this unit. Looks like the same issue with the line that supplies the Freon went out again, just like two years ago. I do not have the most expensive house in Lantana, TX, but it is mine and I do not plan on leaving. I hope a builder like Highland Homes does not use Amana again. It breaks down during the hottest time of the year and is not dependable. I would rather have my first AC unit from my first house that ran all the time to keep the house cool and not this supposedly great brand of AC for a nicer home. Very disappointed in Amana and even more disappointed in Highland Homes for using this brand. My neighbor next door and down the street also had problems. One of them had to replace their AC after six years. Not acceptable.

"Amana distinctions 14 seer"
This Ac unit was the most difficult purchase to make because many reviews said stay away from Amana. I called a few companies all which had their own brand and labour warranties. However we decided to go with direct energy, even though they were big bucks. But, I know that if any issues they are a phone call away (12 year parts and labour) Ac working great house is cold Period!!! All Ac units use pretty much same parts except trane This site really confusing with many different reviews!! Just picked one !!

"Amana distinctions units"
I bought 2 Amana Distinctions units in March 2011, a 4 ton and a 3 ton. Both are 2 stage 16 seer. I haven't had anything but good out of both units. They are quiet and reliable. The only thing I have done is change my filters on a regular bases and washed the coils on the outside units in the spring. I think that installation has a lot to do with them and I found a nice fair independent installer. I saved about $5000.00 over the next lowest bid (for both units) and love bragging about my electric bill with my neighbors.

"Amana Distinctions"
We just purchased a new construction home that has 3 Amana Distinctions compressors and units. So far, we have been very unhappy with them. The compressors are very loud!! Not sure why the company write up claims them to be one of the most quiet on the market. The compressor located near our guest room, kept our guests up their entire stay. When it would click on the noise and whir was almost too much to handle. Luckily the compressor outside our master bedroom is buffered by our closet, but you can still hear it come on with a bit of a bang. I'm hoping after a few service calls to tweak or further insulate the compressors will lessen the noise. Never knew that Amana was made by Goodman. Told by my trusty HVAC guy that Goodman is no GOOD..It is builder grade. Really pissed that my brand new million dollar home has builder grade AC/Heat.

While a few members said Amana Distinctions is a good unit, nearly all professional members have replied that the Distinctions is literally the same product as Goodman, with a different logo. On gardenweb.com this is also mentioned several times.
