Overview of the ASXC18
The Amana ASXC18 is a two-stage, high efficiency central air conditioner, which provides a SEER of up to 19 if it is properly installed with a matching air handler.
While it may not be obvious at first glance, the ASXC18 name conveys quite a bit of information about this series:
- "A" stands for Amana
- "S" stands for "split-system"
- "X" indicates that this is an air conditioner which uses R-410A (also known as Puron) as its refrigerant
- "C" indicates ComfortNet communications ready
- "18" indicates that it has a nominal efficiency (SEER) of 18
ComfortNet is designed to make the initial configuration and communication between the different elements of a residential HVAC system simpler. Once connected, ComfortNet will automatically configure any compatible air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers and blowers to optimize efficiency. Furthermore, the system monitors and stores diagnostic information, and can alert the homeowner that they should contact their contractor when a problem occurs.
While there are ComfortNet-compatible thermostats, ComfortNet does not connect to the internet. Diagnostic data can be retrieved by a contractor via a USB port.
Noisy vs Quiet
The ASXC18 is on the quiet end -- the number of decibels of noise it produces varies primarily on the capacity (output) of the unit. A 3-ton model generates 71 decibels, the 4-ton 72 decibels, and the 5-ton produces 74 decibels.

"Amana Excellent Equipment"
As an HVAC contractor, I've chosen this equipment for my own home. Also install on a regular basis with very pleased clients. It seems almost every single person who is dissatisfied, is dissatisfied with their contractor who won't stand behind their work. They likely were not the best to begin with and did a cut and run job. Now you're stuck with the consequences of who was hired to do the job. Quality counts. The equipment is quality but if your contractor cuts corners on the install it will have issues no matter how good the equipment is. Sometimes pinching pennies with who does the job can cost a whole lot more than pennies in the end. Don't blame the equipment for hiring a bad contractor who did a lousy installation and then won't stand behind their work.

"No warranty service"
Bought an Amana HVAC in 8/14. In one month the serviceman had to install a hard start kit on the AC unit. When it starts, the current it pulls shuts down all the fluorescent lights in the whole house. After the kit was installed, all the lights still blink. A hard start kit is only used on units that are at the end of their life. Not at the beginning. This is not my first rodeo. The furnace (which also controls the AC) locks up any time the power goes off. I manually must turn thermostat off, turn off the furnace breaker, wait 10 minutes, switch the breaker on and the thermostat on for anything to work again. This is a weekend home so having a reliable furnace/AC is critical. Yes I have had the rural electric company out the check the power at the pole/house and at the AC unit. The power is not only good but exceptional. I have called each day for 4 weeks. Every time I get the same response. Your customer service guy is... he is waiting on a email from the technical department. I had a hard start kit installed on a different house in a different city. I asked the guy about this. He gave me an answer in less than 5 minutes. Answering the phone in less than 5 minutes does not give them the right to give a BS response! Oh, by the way, now the Amana service guy has sent me a bill for the hard start kit, as that is not covered under warranty!

"Amana 2-Stage 18 Seer AC"
Just recently bought a new furnace and AC. I bought the 2-stage compressor with 2-speed blower fan 18 seer ari#4654769. I bought this with a matching furnace AMVM961005DXA-modulating gas valve, with variable speed blower 96% efficient (gas). I can say that this is the best unit I have ever owned. Replaced a relatively new carrier furnace and AC that was poorly installed by Pulte Homes and Beautler AC company. Had a notorious freon leak that they could never repair and all ducting improperly sized. Replaced all ducting with new 16+in returns from all rooms and common areas. AC unit outside is so quiet, I cannot tell if its on especially in 1st stage cooling. House stays at 72F all day and electrical bill is ridiculously low. Unit has the lifetime compressor/heat exchanger. Beautiful warranty and better than other products I have (York/Carrier, etc). I would highly recommend Amana even though they are made by Goodman. The product quality is there and you can't beat the warranty. Just need to find a reputable dealer/installer to put it in right.

"Good Buy But Will Run Up Your Utility Bill"
I purchased this air conditioner approximately two years ago on the recommendation of a friend. This model is very quiet, and seems very efficient. This unit cools the air in my home quickly especially in the summer. One of the major problems is the fact that it seems to use up a lot of electricity. My utility bills in the first summer I bought it were extremely high (about $ 150 more than usual). In subsequent months, I was a bit stingier and more aware of my AC usage, which helped to lower my bills slightly. Neither my friend nor I have had any repair issues with this AC unit, and it seems to be very resilient to wear and tear. I would easily recommend this to a friend as long as they were willing to keep a close eye on the thermostat. Overall, a good product that will last, but will run up your utilities slightly.
