Sure wish I had read all this before I bought this piece of shit, these people should have to pay for selling this crap to people wanting a reliable product, leaks in the a coil, numerous times, finally had to replace the coil, service bills out the roof, and Amana will not warranty the coil, sorriest a/c unit made. Piece of shit

"Don't buy amana/goodman"
Had a 16 seer ac installed in 2008 and had to have the evaporator replaced under warranty in 2012 (part reimbursed only, had to pay for install). The replaced evaporator was leaking again 2014. This is absolutely ridiculous having to shell out 1,000 for yet another faulty evaporator install labor and Puron. Not to mention the first one was $450 with additional 100's of dollars spent to add coolant about 2 times a year for 4 years. Replaced the entire system in 2014 with Carrier.

"It's the installing company not the Air Conditioner"
You must realize everyone of these reviews has nothing to do with the brand, and everything to do with the installer. Majority of failures are caused by poor installation. Can't go with the lowest bidder and expect top quality. Only thing worse then paying top dollar for top quality is paying to little and getting what you pay for.

"Too many problems"
I am now on my second evaporator coil in less than eight years. First one was a warranty repair after four years but the exact same failure on the same unit after another 3.5 years is terrible. Tried to get some support from the Mfg but they were very difficult to deal with. Had 3 different ac guys come out to quote repair / replacement and none of them had good things to say about Amana / Goodman products. The mfg replacement coil I needed is on back order with no known delivery date, so we are working to find a compatible replacement. Buyer beware

"System Is working Great"
It was pretty evident that the brand of the unit isn't as important as having a good quality contractor install the system. So after much research and 3 estimates, I decided to have Comfort Solutions do the job. They were in the middle of the pack as far as price but after researching the company, they had great online reviews. The air conditioner has been installed for 1 season and saved me about a 30% off my electric bill and it is also much quieter than my old unit. The matching furnace also seems quieter too. I would highly recommend the product, but I would make sure you do your research on your installing contractor. From everything I read that is the difference maker.

"Don't buy this, it's crap!"
I have used this unit for a total of about 12 months. I am a snowbird in Florida and used it for the winters of 2014 & 2015. I came back four days ago and have had the service man here four times. After replacing the thermostat and a relay switch (twice) and paying $395 in service charges, he decided it had to be the motor. It would work for several hours, then it would turn off and only the outside unit's fan would work. No air was coming through the duct work. So, today I paid another $300 to get the motor replaced. That's $795 I've paid for this piece of crap, and hopefully, it may be fixed. We'll see in a few hours! After paying $5000 for a new air conditioner/air handler, you would think I may get a few years worth of service out of it before having to fork out that much money. I called Amana and of course they won't reimburse for anything except the parts. Don't buy it!

"Don't buy Amana!"
Horrible experience with an Amana air conditioning system! I have owned Amana central air conditioning systems in a number of homes, and always thought they were of the highest quality. In fact, I installed a central system at our summer beach house, which operated reliably and without any problems whatsoever in a high salt-air, highly corrosive environment, and it served us well for more than a decade. As a result, when we were building our new house in 2009-10, I specified five Amana systems for our 7500 square foot home. What a mistake! This summer, we have learned that three of the five evaporator coils are leaking, and further learned that the HVAC subcontractor never registered the warranty with Amana. Simple fix, right? Just call the Customer Service department and explain the problem. No... The Amana organization has totally ignored us, in what may be the poster child for horrible customer service. They have stonewalled us, and have not replied to phone calls and emails. Their local distributor has refused to give us the name of their local rep in an effort to find someone who cares about our problem. No help, no solution. I have to fix the problem and pay for what should have been warranted repairs out of my own pocket, because the cost of the service calls coupled with an electricity bill that has skyrocketed while trying to get help from Amana has left me with no choice but to fix it myself. If you buy an Amana air conditioning system and need factory support, forget it. You are on your own, and they will not stand by their products!

"Run away from Amana or you will be sorry"
Thought I was upgrading my 17 year old unit. It's not even a year old and I'm replacing the compressor. Do not make the mistake I did. That lifetime warranty sounds real nice but you will pay for labor and it's not worth the frustration of being without AC.

"Amana/Goodman performs well"
In 2011 we had a 17 year old Trane 2 1/2 ton compressor lock up so I called a local dealer that will install any brand of unit. They replaced the upstairs unit with Goodman and it has performed exceptionally well. In 2013 the 3 1/2 ton downstairs Trane failed because of an evaporator leak. I decided to replace r22 based system with the Amana asx 16 and it is outstanding. Electricity usage is over 500kwh less each month, home is comfortable. I had very minor problems with the builder installed Trane units. They lasted 16 - 18 years. Amana has a lifetime warranty if the compressor fails, they will replace the condensing unit not just change out the compressor. This is the best warranty of all brands and something to consider.

I had 2 Amana systems installed in my 10 year old home. The older units were what the builder put in and when the repairs started increasing I decided to change out both systems. The company I worked with did a great job and the systems are cooling my house better than ever. I use to have to set my thermostat at 68 just to stay comfortable in the Summer and now we keep it set on 74 and it is cold. Our utility cost has dropped by over 50% during the Summer.

"Great Product and Install Company"
I spent a lot of time researching manufacturers and found Amana's AC's and Gas Furnaces to be one of the best. Through my research, I found it was just as important to find a good hvac company to install the product. I chose a local company (Charlotte, North Carolina), Brothers Air & Heat. Brothers gave me a fair price but more importantly proformed a great install. I watched the installation crew and they showed me all the steps they performed to have a perfect install. I love my Amana AC/furnace and will never use any other hvac company other than Brothers. Jim

Replaced my 6 year old trane last year with a tax credit Amana. It has lifetime replacement warranty so I thought I could not go wrong. Power bill went down $125 per month and I kept it on 75 degrees. System still working great. Got prices from Trane and Carrier but the Amana ASX16036 was a little cheaper and got better warranty.

"I Love my Amana"
I had two systems replaced in my home upstairs was Trane system, downstairs Rheem system. The Trane developed leaks in the aluminum coils outside and the Rheem was so noisy I was ashamed to turn it on. They both worked just OK and were installed by the builder when the home was built a few years ago. Now I replaced both systems with new Amama 16 SEER 2-stage A/C units with matching Amana 95% AFUE furnaces in the attic. This was the best investment and I am so pleased in getting rid of the nasty Trane and Rheem units. I save over 50% on my utility bills and these new units are now so quiet inside and out its unbelievable. The installers were the best. It took them six days and worked like dogs. I replaced all the plastic flex ducts with metal ducts and now I have so much air in each room its amazing. I really do believe that having good installers makes the difference. Amana is a great Product.
Other ASX16 Reviews
Based on comments from HVAC forums, the ASX16 is regarded as a good air conditioning unit by both consumers and professionals. A professional on hvac-talk.com calls it one of the 'best bang for the buck' systems, and a consumer with a unit that is not cooling properly was advised by several professionals that it was most likely due to an installation problem.
Online product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Amana ASX16 air conditioner is comprised of the following:
- Lifetime unit replacement limited warranty. If the compressor fails for the original, registered owner, a new unit will be supplied for free
- 10-year limited parts warranty
The warranty does not cover labor costs.
