Furnace overview

A furnace is used to heat your home throughout the cold winter months. There are several types of furnaces including:

  • gas furnaces
  • oil furnaces
  • electric furnaces

Gas furnaces use natural gas or propane that’s sparked in the burner. A metal heat exchanger is warmed by the flames and then the heat exchanger pushes that heat into the air. That heated air is then forced into the ductwork by the furnace’s blower and then diffuses it evenly throughout each room in your home.

Oil furnaces have to have indoor oil tanks that can hold at least 275 gallons and demand more room for installation. Oil furnaces are a little more expensive to run because of how much grimier they are than gas furnaces.

Electric furnaces convert heat quite adequately but might be more expensive compared to oil and gas furnaces due to the rising costs of electricity.
