Corporate History
The history of Frigidaire dates back to 1916 when the Guardian Frigerator
Company began manufacturing the first electric household refrigerator.
General Motors purchased the company in 1919 and made it a subsidiary of
Delco-Light in 1921. Later, it became known as the Frigidaire Division.
In 1979, White Consolidated Industries acquired Frigidaire. AB Electrolux
purchased WCI in 1986. Frigidaire is known for making the first room air
conditioner.
