"EdenPure Gen 4: All it's cracked up to be?"
Last winter we heated or 2200 sq. foot home almost exclusively with our no-vent gas log fire place. This year we are not using gas due to a health concern, so we did some research and opted for the EdenPure Gen4. Now, we knew going in that heating with electric would be more expensive. If you think about it, coal or natural gas power plants burn fuel to create power, so rather than just putting all that heat into your home, the plant uses that same heat to make electricity which you then use to make more heat. Obviously, this is less efficient. Last year, we calculated that we could run our fireplace for 7 hours per day for one dollar. Heating the house for about $30 bucks a month. Not too bad. One advantage is that we live in SC, so the demand is fairly low, but here in the upstate our temperatures are in the high twenties, low thirties in the dead of winter. The EdenPure is 1500 Watts so when running at full power, it is costing us $1.08 per hour. At about the same as our fireplace, that impressed us, so we decided to give it a try. First impressions were not that great since the first unit they sent us was malfunctioning right out of the box. Customer service was not so great either, they refused to replace our unit until they received ours back, so there was a 17 day delay between placing the order and receiving a functioning heater. We ordered two units, one large, one small, and the small was on backorder, arriving 16 days after the order was placed. I guess we should have been skeptical when upon opening the boxes we were met with a huge warning to keep the packaging for warranty returns! Anyway, first impressions aside, we are not very excited about this heater. It seems to put out a fantastic amount of heat from the front of the unit, and it does hold true to its claim of staying cool to the touch except for the outlet, however, the claim that this unit could heat a 1000 square foot space quickly and evenly falls well short. With temperatures in the mid forties, the heater was not able to keep the lower level of our house at 65 (900 sq. ft.) even running on high for the ENTIRE DAY! And virtually NO heat made its way upstairs. Our home is only a few years old, and has good insulation, windows etc, and our fireplace could heat the entire house to 73 up and downstairs running 4-6 hours per day. So much for the promise of cheap heat this winter. Of course, our fireplace puts out up to 25,000 BTU's, whereas the EdenPure can only muster 5000. I understand that it will cost more to heat our house with electric vs. gas, that is not EdenPure's fault. But I'm dissapointed with EdenPure's claims that their unit gives you even "...soft, even, penetrating heat" for up to 1000 sq. ft. That was definitely not the case. However, if you were wanting to heat a smaller, closed space, I think the unit would be fantastic.

"Very Small and Powerful Space Heater"
I have owned my EdenPURE space heater for approximately 1 years. I purchased it in order to heat garages and un-insulated indoor spaces while I put up dry wall and do electrical work. I like the EdenPURE because it is easy to move, very durable, and generates a ton of consistent heat. In the past I have struggled with bulky space heaters that do not put out a lot of warmth. This is not the case with the EdenPURE. Another great feature on this unit is it's lifetime guarantee. A lot of space heaters will break down or fall apart with continual use. But, the guarantee and the durability of the EdenPURE make it a great fit for the work truck. The color and style of the unit are also very nice. I have received quite a few comments from home owners and friends about the space heater and where they might purchase something similar. It seems to add an air of class to my operation.

"My review of the EdenPure Portable Space Heater."
I bought three of the EdenPure brand portable space heaters when they first came out in 2009. At first they seemed to be the answer to everyone's heating problems. They advertized that you could cut your heating costs by at least 35% in the first season alone. The price tag was a bit hefty, MSRP was around $350, but I decided to buy 3 of the units, and to give two away as gifts for my grandparents because as I understood the heaters would pay for themselves in the first year. When I first took mine out of the box, and pulled it up I was very happy with it. It heated up rather quickly, and it warmed everything in the house in a different way than regular electric heat did. I noticed the furniture, and the floor warmed up which was very nice during the extra cold winter days. My grandparents found it easy to use as well. Unfortunately within 6 months of one of my grandparents using theirs, the heater stopped working. I contacted the company to have it repaired, and was told that I did not have a warranty because I had thrown away the box that the heater had arrived in. They told me the box was my warranty. We worked out an "agreement" and I paid the company another $150 to repair the unit. It was fixed, and has worked fine since then. This is my third season of using my unit. When I plugged it up a few days ago, the heater wasn't working right. The heating element is no longer getting hot, and it is only blowing out cold air. I can only imagine the hassle I will go through trying to have this one fixed. I would be skeptical about buying another one, simply because spending $500 on a heater is not really helping me to lower the total cost of heating my home. I also noticed that my electric bill was at least the same price with using this heater versus using the electric heat in my home which was far from the drastic way the heater was advertized.
