Corporate History

The Whirlpool Corporation was founded in 1911 by the Upton Brothers -- Louis, Frederick and Emory -- and was originally named Upton Brothers Machine Company. In 1948, the Upton Brothers Machine Company changed their name to the Whirlpool Corporation and began manufacturing room air conditioners in the 1950s.
