air conditioning and heating. Sears is a publicly owned company, trading on the

Corporate History
Sears, Roebuck and Co. was officially formed in 1893 although its history dates back to
1886 at which time Richard W. Sears, a railroad agent in Minnesota, received a box of
gold watches and sold them to other agents.
- 1908: Hercules steam heating systems were advertised as heating plants and began replacing many cast iron stoves and fireplaces with central heating sources
- 1927: Sears launched its Kenmore brand, although air conditioners were not offered to consumers until 1977
- 1928: Coldspot air conditioners were offered to the public until the popularity of the Kenmore brand pushed it out of contention in 1977
