Sanyo North America Corp. (SNA) manufactures residential, commercial and industrial and air conditioning systems, heat pumps and gas heater air conditioners. The company has U.S. headquarters in San Diego. Sanyo is a subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd., which is in turn a part of the Panasonic Group. Since Panasonic's acquisition of Sanyo, many of the company's HVAC products are being sold under the Panasonic name.

In 2012, Panasonic's Appliances segment, which includes its HVAC sales, saw revenue of approximately $16.4 billion USD.

History

Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. was founded in the 1947 in Osaka, Japan, with production of its first air conditioner in 1961. Sanyo purchased Fisher Electronics in 1975, and produced a series of central air conditioners under the name Sanyo-Fisher. In 2000, Sanyo Electric Air Conditioning Co. Ltd. merged all of its air conditioning businesses. In 2011, the company was acquired by Panasonic Corp. As of 2012, Panasonic had announced plans to revamp Sanyo's air-conditioning production methods to "enhance its competitive strength."

Product Lines

Sanyo produces wall- and ceiling-mounted, dual- and tri-zone air conditioners, as well as wall-mounted, dual-zone, concealed duct and ceiling-mounted heat pumps. The company provides both commercial and residential options, with a range of output geared to meet needs for single room or large area heating and/or cooling. In addition, Sanyo/Panasonic offers the ECO-I VRF system as an exterior heat pump or heat recovery unit or indoor unit; this option is specifically geared toward saving energy.
