Lochinvar Boilers and Water Heaters

Lochinvar manufactures boilers and water heaters as well as commercial solar systems, pool and spa heaters, tanks, and accessories for these products. The manufacturer prides itself on the high efficiency of its products, its service and support, and its "green" manufacturing processes. Lochinvar is owned by Milwaukee-based A. O. Smith Corp., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange as AOS. A.O. Smith reported in its 2011 Annual Report that Lochinvar saw 2011 sales near $200 million.

History

Lochinvar was founded in 1939 by Walter Vallett, Sr. as the Walter Vallett Co. The company's original business was manufacturing commercial and residential water heaters. Walter Vallett Co. bought Michigan Tank and Furnace and the Lochinvar brand in 1954. In 1957, Walter Vallett Co. became Lochinvar Water Heater Corp., with its head office located in Detroit. Lochinvar acquired Wagoner Water Heater Co. in 1970, at which point it moved its headquarters to Nashville. The company expanded greatly during the 1980s and 1990s, with five facility expansions and the addition of five distribution centers. Lochinvar relocated in 2001 to the current headquarters in Lebanon, Tenn. In August 2011, the company was acquired by A.O. Smith at a price of $421 million.

Product Lines

Lochinvar commercial boilers include the Crest condensing boiler, SYNC condensing boiler, Power-Fin boiler, the Knight XL, the Copper Fin II, the Copper Fin Atmospheric, the Commercial Electric compact, the Commercial Electric steam and the regular Commercial Electric boilers. The high-efficiency CREST commercial boiler delivers up to 99 percent thermal efficiency in low water temperature applications. It features the company's all-in-one "Smart Touch" operating control, with an 8-inch touch screen interface. Units are available with BTU/H input from 1.5 to 3.5 million.

Lochinvar offers several options in residential boilers. The Knight heating boiler reaches up to 95 percent AFUE and its ten models range between 50,000 to 399,000 BTU/H . The Solution heating boiler has an AFUE rating of 84.2 percent with options between 45,000 and 260,000 BTU/H. The company also offers the highly insulated, impact-resistant Squire stainless steel buffer tank.

Environmental Impact

Due to its efforts to reduce outpot of volatile organic compounds in painting and other processes, Lochinvar has received the distinction from the Environmental Protection Agency of being a small quantity generator (SQG), a manufacturer that produces less than 1,000 kilograms of hazardous waste per month. In addition, each unit produced by Lochinvar is tested for best performance, and water used in the test is then reused in plant operations. The company also takes strides to recycle materials used in the plant such as cardboard, paper and metal, and works regularly to implement new environmentally friendly initiatives.

Lochinvar Warranty

Lochinvar provides a 12-year limited warranty for the heat exchanger in its boilers. All other boiler parts are warranted for one year. The Squire stainless steel buffer tank carries a 5-year warranty.
