History of LG
LG Electronics USA is the division of LG Group that supplies heating and cooling products in North America.
LG Group was founded in 1947 in South Korea. LG Electronics was founded in 1958 as GoldStar, with production of its first air conditioners beginning in the 1960s. By 2008, the company had recorded sales of more than 100 million of these units. As of 2011 the company had reported that it would increase its investment in air-conditioning products in order to deliver "a full line-up" for residential and large industrial applications.
Today LG Group, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, has operations in 60 countries. It is comprised of 36 unique business units, employs approximately 150,000 people worldwide and regularly exceeds $100 billion in revenue.
Among its PTAC light commercial air-conditioning units, LG offers 22 models. The options range from 7,000 to 15,000 BTUs in a 208/230V line and a 265V line. The hallmarks of this cost-effective line include quiet operation, a sleek design and controls that automatically shut the unit down upon reaching temperature extremes.
The company's ductless products, for single or multi-room heating and cooling, come wall- or ceiling-mounted with up to 42,000 BTU/H. The "Art Cool" line aims to make the unit an aesthetic part of any room, with attachments designed to display artwork.
Room air conditioners are available in window and portable models. Some popular features on the window units include 12- and 24-hour on/off timers, 4-way air deflectors and variable fan speeds.
