Intertherm makes air conditioners; electric, gas and oil furnaces; and heat pumps specificially geared toward use in manufactured homes. According to information from the parent company, these products can differ significantly in design and standards from products used in traditional residential applications. Intertherm is owned by Nordyne Group. Nortek Inc., the parent company of Nordyne Group, reported 2011 net sales of $2.1 billion, with $378 million of that attributed to the residential HVAC division of which Intertherm is a part.
Corporate History
Founded in 1919, Intertherm became a Nordyne company in 1987. In 1998, Nordyne started marketing under White-Westinghouse brands Frigidaire, Philco, Tappan, Kelvinator and Gibson. Each of these brands today falls under Nortek's residential heating and cooling division, alongside Broan, Mammoth, Maytag, Miller, and NuTone. Nortek noted in its 2011 annual report that the company'ss competitors in many cases have better brand recognition, which has made innovation and improvement of its product line a priority in order to address this issue.
Product Lines
Intertherm's gas and oil furnace line includes the M1 series and the classic CMF series in the 80 percent efficiency models. They also offer upflow and downflow series in 90 percent efficiency models. The systems' unique ultra pilot system automatically shuts off all gas in the event of an outage. The Intertherm gas furnaces are air-conditioning ready. The oil furnaces are built with high-efficiency drum or multiple tube heat exchangers for long life and efficiency. There is a range of fuel source choices as natural gas, propane gas or oil.
