Corporate History

The history of Frigidaire dates back to 1916 when the Guardian Frigerator Co. began manufacturing the first electric household refrigerator. General Motors purchased the company in 1918 and made it a subsidiary of Delco-Light in 1921. Later, it became known as the Frigidaire Division. In 1979, White Consolidated Industries acquired Frigidaire. AB Electrolux purchased WCI in 1986. Frigidaire made its first "air-cooled, window-type" air conditioner in 1938.
