Life expectancy can vary with the geographic location of the furnace (colder climates equal more use), whether it is the proper size for the house (too small or large can affect performance), and how well maintained it has been.
For information on when to consider replacing a furnace Lennox actually has some good suggestions here: http://www.lennox.com/beforeyoubuy/when-to-replace/.
As another rule of thumb, most people say 18 years is about an average. However, different variables can affect that average so it is better to examine your furnace and whether to replace it from a performance perspective.
To keep legal happy, let me just say that I am not an HVAC contractor, and you should never even look at your furnace without having a qualified, liability accepting HVAC contractor present. To keep sales happy, let me just say that you can find an HVAC contractor that's happy to take your money here: http://www.furnacecompare.com/perl/find_contractors.pl
