About Whitewater
Whitewater, Wisconsin is a city in Jefferson and Walworth counties. Located near the southern portion of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, Whitewater is home of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Whitewater was founded at the confluence of Whitewater Creek and Spring Brook, and named for the white sand in their beds. A gristmill was built on Whitewater Creek and the resulting pond is now called Lake Cravath. The city grew quickly when the first railroad line in Wisconsin passed through in 1853, but later declined when the two largest employers left town. Annual events in Whitewater include an evening Lighted Holiday Parade and Open House in December, the "Freeze Fest" in January, the Bridal Fair, the Donkey Basketball and Farm Toy Show in February, Maxwell Street Day, and the 4th of July Celebration. Minneiska Water Ski Shows are held on Saturday evenings in the summer on Whitewater Lake. The average high and low temperatures in January are 25 and 8 degrees. The average high and low temperatures in July are 82 and 60 degrees.
