About Kenosha

Kenosha is the county seat of Kenosha County, Wisconsin. It is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan, about an hour north of Chicago, Illinois and 30 minutes south of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The city’s name is an English version of the original Indian name. The community, first called Pike, was established by white settlers in 1836 with the arrival of the U.S. Post Office. The city boasts a public museum which exhibits a woolly mammoth skeleton, as well as a pier light and an older, non-operating light at the city’s harbor entrance. During the summer, it is home to the Bristol Renaissance Faire. One of the most famous residents of the city was Orson Welles. The average temperature during the summer is 76 degrees.
