Sammamish, Washington is located in King County in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area. Sammamish is situated on the Sammamish Plateau, east of Lake Sammamish. Sammamish is derived from two Native American words: Samena, meaning "hunter", and "mish" meaning "people." The population in 2005 were 38,640. The average temperature in the summer is 62 degrees and the average temperature in the winter is 41 degrees. The average annual snowfall is 18.5 inches. The city was incorporated in 1999. Sammamish is known for its annual Fourth on the Plateau Independence Day celebration with fireworks, live music, food, face painting, and balloon art for the kids.
