About Kirkland

Kirkland is a city in King County. It is an affluent city with an estimated population of approximately 14,750. Kirkland is a suburb of Seattle and the economy of Kirkland gets a boost from the presence of Microsoft employees. The city is built on the land surrounding Lake Washington and the downtown is located on the lakefront. The place was inhabited by Native Americans until as late as the 1860s, when two British families, the McGregons and Pophams, settled there. Another British citizen, Peter Kirk, visited the site and decided to set up a steel mill there. The city of Kirkland was founded in 1880 and incorporated in 1905, with a population of 532. The average low temperature in winter (January) is 41 degrees and the average high in summer (July) is 64 degrees.
