About Lubbock
Lubbock, TX is located in the northwestern part of the state and encompasses the Lubbock Lake Landmark, an important archeological site and natural history preserve that contains evidence of nearly 12,000 years of occupation by ancient peoples on the Southern High Plains, otherwise known as the Llano Estacado. The county of Lubbock was founded in 1876 and named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock, who was a Confederate colonel and founded the Texas Rangers. In 1891 Lubbock became the county seat and in 1909 became reincorporated as a city.
