About Watertown
Watertown, South Dakota, is the county seat of Codrington County. Watertown is located on the Big Sioux River between Lakes Pelican and Kampeska in northeastern South Dakota. Its population was 20,237 as of the 2000 Census, making it the fourth largest city in the state. Wildlife artist Terry Redlin is a fixture in the city, and runs an art center there. Watertown has very cold winters, with average January high temperatures of just 20 degrees and average low temperatures of 0 degrees. In July, Watertown's average high temperature is 83 degrees, with a low of 58 degrees. Watertown receives about 22 inches of precipitation each year, with almost a quarter of it coming in the month of June.
