About Sandusky
Located on Sandusky Bay, Sandusky has more than 22 miles of shoreline within the city limits. Sandusky is the governmental seat of Erie County and is noted for its landscaped parks, historical architecture and the Sandusky Bay Pathway. Sandusky was founded in 1818 and its population grew quickly throughout the 19th century. During this time German and Irish stonecutters were attracted to the area because of the city's opportunities for jobs in construction. Most of the earliest buildings in Sandusky were carved from limestone (which can be found about a foot below the ground in most sections of town). The Sandusky area is usually solely identified with Cedar Point, the park so grand that for the last eight years, it has been honored by Amusement Today with the Golden Ticket Award, which is presented to the best amusement park in the world. Sandusky also offers shopping, museums, boating, cruises, golfing, fishing, camping, spelunking, dining, wineries and more. The average low and high temperatures in January and July are 18 to 35 degrees and 62 to 85 degrees, respectively.
