Middletown, Ohio is located on the Stillwater River south of Dayton and midway between Dayton and Cincinnati. Middletown has an old downtown that looks like the historic district of many cities in this area. There are stores, banks, churches, and business fronts dating to the Victorian era. On the far bank side of the city, there are a string of attractive historic Victorian houses. You can cross an old iron bridge if you come in from the western side and go over the Stillwater. The river gets so low during the summer that ducks can walk across it and weeds grow up through the little bit of water. The ‘banks’ are farmed and you often see fields of corn or soy beans. Temperatures in summer range from 50 to 90 degrees, with the average in the 70s. In the winter, temperatures can plunge to slightly below zero, but usually range from about 20 to 40 degrees. The Stillwater River flooded in 1913 and parts of Middletown and other cities on the river were destroyed.
