About Gahanna
The city of Gahanna is located in northeastern Franklin County, Ohio, about 10 miles from Columbus. It is located along Walnut Creek and was settled in 1849. It merged with another town, Bridgeport, in 1881 to form the city of Gahanna. Named after the plantation owned by its original settler, John Clark, the name Gahanna is Native American in origin and describes the joining of three creeks into Big Walnut Creek. Visitors who enjoy paddleboat rides should seek out the cruise offered down Big Walnut Creek. The city is also known as the “Herb Capital of Ohio.” A festival celebrating this tradition is held each May. During the winter, the average temperature hovers in the 30s. In the summer, temperatures average in the 70s. Average annual precipitation is 38.5 inches. July is the wettest month of the year with an annual average of 4.6 inches of rainfall.
