About Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs, New York is located in the southeastern part of New York, just north of Albany. It lies in the Adirondack Mountains and is on Saratoga Lake. The area was first settled by the Iroquois and named Sarachtogue, meaning "swift water." It became Saratoga County in 1791. One of the most famous attractions here are two mineral springs, Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs. These spas were very fashionable with the wealthy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which made the area affluent. The weather in Saratoga Springs is quite cool in the winter and warm and pleasant in the summer. The average temperature in January is a high of 30 degrees and a low of 12. In July the average high is 83 degrees and the average low is 56. The city had a population of 26,000 in 2000. The city is located close to the location of the Battle of Saratoga, one of the most important battles in the Revolutionary War.
