Jericho, New York, is a hamlet within the town of Oyster Bay. Jericho is about 10 miles south of the northern shore of Long Island, and about 20 miles east of New York City. Its population stood at 13,045 as of the 2000 census. Jericho was founded by Quakers in the 17th century, and was home to Elias Hicks, a noted Quaker preacher of the late 1700s and early 1800s.
