About Glens Falls

Glen Falls, New York is located in Warren County, in the far east part of New York State on the Hudson River. It tends to be humid, like most of New York state, with an average summer temperature of about 81 degrees. The winter temperatures average 28 degrees. Historically it was first settled by colonists in 1766, but was not named Glen's Falls (now Glens falls) until 1788, when the deed to the town's land was transferred to Colonel Johannes Glen of Schenectady as payment for a gambling debt or as a thank you for a favor. Local legends don't agree on which of these was the real reason why Glen received the land. Population as of July 2006 was 14,078, although that number increases during the annual balloon festival in September. Glens Falls is a typical Upstate New York town, with wonderful fall foliage and cold, snowy winters.
