Glen Cove, New York, is located on the northern shore of Long Island just across the Long Island Sound from Yonkers. The city is in Nassau County and (except for its shore) is completely surrounded by Oyster Bay. It was once part of that town but became independent in 1917. The area was settled beginning in 1668, and originally called “Musketa Cove.” Famous people with links to Glen Cove are baseball great Roy Campanella and actor Mel Gibson, as well as author Thomas Pynchon and banker J.P. Glen Cove is sometimes called “The Jewel of the North Shore” and was used as the setting for movies such as “Annie Hall” and “Arthur."
