Brentwood is a hamlet in the town of Islip in Suffolk county, New York on Long Island, United States. Brentwood was known as Modern Times, a utopian colony founded on 750 acres of land in 1851 by two social reformers Josiah Warren and Stephen Pearl Andrew. This colony was later on renamed after the village Brentwood, Essex in England. The city is equipped with Pilgrim State Hospital, which was the world’s largest mental institution.
