About Batavia
Batavia is the gateway to Western New York. In 1802, Joseph Ellicott established his headquarters for the Holland Land Company in Batavia to open the region to new settlers from New England, Pennsylvania, and Europe. That same year, New York State created Genesee County and assigned Batavia as the county seat.
