About Spring Valley
Spring Valley, Nevada, occupies the southwestern quarter of the Las Vegas Valley, and is centered just two miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Like the rest of the Las Vegas area, it has a desert climate (average of about 4.5 inches of rain per year, mostly falling in the winter). Average highs and lows are 104 and 78° F in July and 57 and 37 ° F in February.
Spring Valley started as a planned community in the 1970s, and was made a town in 1981. (It was unincorporated then, and still is.) The population has skyrocketed along with that of the Las Vegas area- Clark County says it has grown by 50%, to over 175,000, just since 2000. It is now host to second homes of many wealthy and famous people, such as Andre Agassi, Gavin Maloof (owner of the Sacramento Kings), and formerly the Sultan of Brunei.
