About Sauk Rapids
Sauk Rapids is located in central Minnesota in Benton County. It has a population of about 10,500 people. The town was named Sauk Rapids after the rapids just below the mouth of the Sauk River. The first home there was a large mansion built by W.H. Wood in 1851 and was named Lynden Terrace. A general store, hotel, and jail were soon built as settlers started moving into the area. The first school was built there in 1886. The town was destroyed by a twister on April 14, 1886 and had to be almost completely rebuilt. The warmer summer months can have daytime temperatures around 75 degrees with some days getting into the 80s and night-time temperatures around 65 degrees or lower. The cooler winter months can average temperatures around 10 degrees during the day with nights sometimes dropping below 0 degrees. Snowfall in Sauk Rapids can be heavy at times. It snows from November through April and they get the most snowfall usually in January and March with approximately 10 inches in each month. June is usually the wettest month of the year in Sauk Rapids when they get 4 to 5 inches of rain.
