About Sauk Rapids
Sauk Rapids is located in central Minnesota in Benton County. It has a population of about 10,500 people. The town was named Sauk Rapids after the rapids just below the mouth of the Sauk River. The first home there was a large mansion built by W.H. Wood in 1851 and was named Lynden Terrace. A general store, hotel, and jail were soon built as settlers started moving into the area. The first school was built there in 1886. The town was destroyed by a twister on April 14, 1886 and had to be almost completely rebuilt.
