About North Mankato
North Mankato, is a growing community with a current population of approximately 13,000. The city is located next to a bend in the Minnesota River, about an hour's drive south of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Summer days are usually in the 70s; winters are very cold, averaging in the teens. North Mankato occupies land that was once inhabited by the Dakota Indians, before it was settled by Europeans. Today, Mankato is home to a number of business and research parks, and is experiencing strong corporate expansion, including a large investment by Wal-Mart. In 2006, North Mankato was ranked 16th in the nation for quality of life by Bizjournal.com. It has also been ranked one of the top 50 college towns in the United States by the Rolling Stone College Guide (2005) and in 2007, AARP placed Mankato on its "Cities to Watch" list.
