About Norton Shores
Norton Shores, Michigan, is immediately south of the city of Muskegon, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Its population stood at about 22,500 as of the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1845 and grew because of its sawmills and fruit orchards in the 1850s and 1860s; it is now primarily a residential suburb of Muskegon. The town's climate is relatively cool. Its average January temperatures include a high of 30 degrees and a low of 17 degrees. In July, the average high is 80 degrees and the average low is 60 degrees. Norton Shores gets about 33 inches of precipitation each year, with August and September being the two wettest months.
