About Battle Creek

Battle Creek, Michigan, is in the south-central part of the state, where the Battle Creek River meets the Kalamazoo River about 80 miles east of Lake Michigan. It is best known as the world headquarters of Kellogg Corporation, and thus bears the nickname "The Cereal City." Battle Creek was so-named because it was founded near the site of a fight in 1824 that occurred between a surveyor and some Native Americans. It is the county seat of Calhoun County, Michigan, with a population of just over 53,000 as of the 2000 census. Its weather is mild, with July averages of 83 degrees (high) and 59 degrees (low). January has an average high of 31 degrees and an average low of 15 degrees. The city sees about 35 inches of precipitation each year; September is the wettest month.
