About Alma

Alma, Michigan is located in Gratiot County in the central part of the state. One tradition says the city was named after the daughter of a developer; another says it is named after a Crimean War battle site. Alma's population was 9,275 as of the 2000 Census. It became a city in 1905. Alma is known for its Highland Festival, and it is the birthplace of well-known architect Ralph Rapson.
