Danville, Illinois is the county seat of Vermilion County and is about 2 hours south of Chicago. The 1,000-acre Lake Vermilion in the northwest section of town is a popular destination. Danville is also home to the Vermilion County War Museum, which features artifacts from every war the United States has been involved in. Another site of historical interest is the Fithian home. In 1858, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech from the south balcony and also used one of the bedrooms on many of his visits.
