Clinton, Iowa is located about 120 miles west of Chicago, Illinois, on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The first settler was Joseph Bartlett, and Clinton was then known as New York. In 1855 the Chicago, Iowa and Nebraska railroad company decided to build tracks to cross the river at Little Rock Island, changing the town's fate.
