About Trinidad
Trinidad is the county seat of Las Animas County and has a population of about 9,000 people. It is located in Southern Colorado at the foot of Raton Pass and is about 115 miles south of Colorado Springs. Trinidad has a very rich history that dates back to the early 1800s. The city was once a coal mining boom town but today the coal mines are closed. Trinidad has temperatures that average around 75 degrees in the summer months with some days seeing high temperatures of about 85 degrees. In the winter, the average temperature is about 30 degrees during the day and significantly colder at night. The snowfall is normally from December through March, with the heaviest snowfall usually occurring in March. The wettest time of the year is in July and August when they get about 3 inches of rainfall each month in Trinidad.
