About Fort Morgan

Fort Morgan was established in 1884 and is located in the northeastern plains area of Colorado. Today it has a population of approximately 11,000 people and is the county seat of Morgan County. It is also the commercial and retail hub for all of northeastern Colorado and is located 80 miles northeast of Denver. Fort Morgan was formally a military post known as Camp Taylor and in 1865 it was renamed Fort Wardwell. When buildings were erected the following year they changed the name again to Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan has high temperatures that average in the 80s in the summer months and low temperatures that average around 10 degrees during the coldest month of winter, which is January. Typically May and June are the rainiest months in Fort Morgan, and snowfall can be from November through March, with the heaviest snowfall usually being in December and January. Fort Morgan gets about 10 inches of snow each January.
