About Fort Carson
Fort Carson is located on the south side of the city of Colorado Springs and is in both El Paso and Pueblo counties. It is a United States Army installation and was established in 1942. The city of Colorado Springs purchased the land and donated it to the War Department. At first, it was formally known as Camp Carson, but it was later renamed Fort Carson. It was named in honor of army scout Christopher “Kit” Carson. Fort Carson has temperatures that average around 75 degrees in the summer months, with some days seeing highs of up to 80 degrees. Average winter lows are about 20 degrees during the day with colder temperatures at night. The snowfall is normally from November through April, with the heaviest snowfall usually occurring in February and March. August is usually the rainiest month in Fort Carson.
