About Castle Rock
Castle Rock is the county seat of Douglas County, Colorado located midway between Denver and Colorado. It is situated at the feet of the Rocky Mountains in the East Plum Creek Valley. The city experiences a moderate and sunny climate for about 255 days per year. The average temperatures in the summer and winter are 63.8 and 31.8 degrees respectively. Castle Rock was incorporated in 1881 when eastern Douglas County was redrawn to its present location. It was the discovery of Rhyolite stone that lead to construction of a settlement which later became Castle Rock. Jeremiah Gould, one of the first settlers in the region, also owned 160 acres to the south of "The (Castle) Rock." The community at that time consisted of a few shanties inhabited by prospectors, quarry workers and other hired hands. In 1874 when Castle Rock was officially designated as the seat of Douglas County, Gould donated 120 acres to be known as "Castle Rock."
