Santa Ana is located in Orange county, about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. It has a land area of 27 square miles.
The place has an interesting history behind it. In 1810 the Spanish empire "gave" a large piece of land to Jost Antonio Yobra as thanks for the assistance he had given to a group of Spanish expeditioners in 1769. An American, Jacob Ross, purchased 650 acres of this land from Yobra family as an investment. William Spurgeon then bought a major part of this land from Ross and settled down. Spurgeon, then, took the job of post masster, built a road across the forest of mustaard trees to carry the mail and attracted more people to migrate. Spurgeon was appointed the first Mayor, when Santa Ana was made a city.
