"Run from York"
We put two units in our new house in 2007 and have had nothing but problems. Freon leaks are a constant with these units. Both coils have been replaced. a valve has been replaced in both units, technician called it a spider valve. Outside the fan motor has failed in one unit and I found out today the motor has failed in unit 2. In addition, a relay is currently out and the compressor is leaking freon. Good luck

"Very disappointed with York"
We've had our York for a little over a year and have had nothing but trouble . We've had a total of 3 ton of freon put it in. We've had a part replaced in the heat pump. Several service calls. Now,it runs constantly from auxiliary heat, back to heat every 5 minutes, even on days when it's above 50 degrees. Yet, the service guys say nothing is wrong. When the unit defrosts, it throws cold air back in thru the vents. I honestly feel I bought a piece of junk. I never had this issue with my last unit, which was a Carrier.

"Split system heat pump"
I purchased this unit new in 2008 and this is the third time it has failed. The first two times the blower motor failed in the air handler. Now I don't have a clue what is wrong with it other than I am getting a complete runaround from York and their "Authorized" service techs. My unit failed early October and I have not had it for two months now. I am on my second tech and now looking for a third. This heat pump sucks and I would not recommend York to anyone. Be careful about their service techs because I found out the hard way that some of them do this part-time and have other full-time jobs. Your satisfaction is not their priority.

"Excessive Failures First 5 Years"
We have two York heat pumps, both have failed twice in the first 5 years. The control boards on both had to be replaced. The fan bearings on one unit seized and had to be replaced. The other unit lost coolant and a leak was found and fixed. At just under 6 years old, one heat pump sometimes fails to start and the service tech could not determine the cause. The failure is so intermittent it is impossible to replicate when the tech is present. I think the control board is failing again. I plan to replace both units with another brand when or possibly before the 10 year warranty is up. Our former units were Trane and I plan to go back to Trane or American Standard as I firmly believe their quality and reliability are better. I also do not like the noisy scroll compressors on the York that sometimes start with a bang/thump.

"York system lasted 5 .5 years"
I am really angry at York right now!!! I had a York 16 Seer 4 ton heat pump and natural gas furnace installed at my house 5.5 years ago. These were supposedly higher end units installed. I recently had to replace both units because the York units failed, and there is only a 5 year warranty. The heat pump had the controller board fail, and as the technicians were pulling it out, they noticed that the fan motor was leaking oil, so it would have had to be replaced as well. The furnace had the inducer motor, main control board and fan controller module fail. All of this would have cost $4500 to repair. The technicians told me they had installed about 20 of these units 5-6 years ago, and most of them are failing. There should have been no reason to have to replace a complete hvac system after 5 years in a new house!! And I find no where else to ask questions about the York reliability.

"HUGE HYDRO BILLS"
Unit Installed December 2009. Our Hydro bills have skyrocketed up to $550.00 per month in the cold months. On average an increase per year of 30-40%. We were told by the company that installed the unit, that we could experience a 30-35% decrease in hydro. The house is never warm coolish air is emitted from the vents. Our old 25 year electric force air furnace kept us warmer and cheaper. In order to keep our house warm we need to supplement with a gas fire, adding to heating costs. We have also upgraded all our insulation to maximum code and have had an Energy Efficiency Evaluation completed, and done upgrades, but nothing has put a dint in the HUGE HYDRO BILLS. We have the unit at our cost it serviced annually. We contacted the company that installed it again last December, (They do not want to know); said they would follow-up, it is now mid April and no one from the company has been in touch. When I followed up in January 2012 one of the owners was rude & arrogant, and wanted to charge me for coming out. Again he never called or showed up. When I hear of someone getting a heat pump I tell then to use extreme caution. It is such a significant out lay of money to feel totally ripped off.

Review:
"York reliability and customer service stinks"
I am located near Smithville, Texas. My York 3 ton heat pump unit started having problems within 7 months after installation. The service tech (Don Chrisner) kept adding refrigerant year after year. I have had 3 leaks at the evaporator. The defrost circuit board failed once. This unit is completely unreliable. My service tech let the unit run out of warranty, knowing all along that problems existed. I have been left holding the bag. George White at Johnson Controls denies any knowledge of problems with York evaporator leakage. I believe there is a cover up involving installers and York reps denying any knowledge of inherent defects with these systems. Read some of the rest of these York reviews. You will see complaints similar to mine, over and over again, but York representatives act like they've never heard of my systems problems before. York has problems, don't make them your problems. Don't buy York! I am removing this system and replacing with Rheem or Ruud.
