"Trane Problems"
I had a Trane 16i 5 ton heat pump installed in my home in AR. and so far have had to replace the plantom (sp)because of a gas leak and now have to replace the compressor. This unit is only about 3 years old. Have been told to replace the compressor is going to cost me $500.00 for labor. Have also been told the gas leak caused the bad compressor. I'm not sure if I would ever buy Trane again.

"Residential consumer"
Can someone please give me a ballpark figure for a split unit 5 ton Trane residential heat pump? If I make a move, it'll be to replace its ancestor a 33-year-old ge Weatherton. I do not need the installation cost, just the hardware price. I'll deal with installation after other rehab and rebuilding matters are taken care of.

"Trane XR 15 with variable"
I am replacing my Rheem seer 10 that is 16 yrs old with a 1.5 ton Trane xr15 with variable speed. It is costing me 5650 but I do get 1500 credit and 400 rebate so in the end it is 3750. Is 5650 a good deal for this unit? I would like to know if I'm getting ripped. The install is next week and I will let you know if this is a good unit.

"XL14i Heat Pump"
I had my XL14i heat pump installed by a factory trained tech and I still had problems for 3 years before they finally figured out what was wrong with it! Every time the unit started, it would make this horrific noise and on top of it wouldn't barely heat and it was always frosting up even when it was 50 degrees outside! I had them out, I know about 20 times before they finally realized that the expansion valve was bad and leaking R410-A. I know that probably wasted a good 10lbs of 410a because it was always leaking. I am very happy now with how my heat pump performs. The heat actually feels hot like it should. New heat pumps are wonderful. Has anyone had a problem like I just described?

"Bill M"
I retract my comment about the problem with the Trane XL14i. Turned out to be a loose electrical connection. But the comment about what Trane's literature says about the effect of power interruption still stands.

"Make sure you have a good warranty"
I have a Trane 4-ton Weathertron Heat Pump split system that was installed by a local Heat and Air company. They gave me a 10-year parts and labor warranty. Believe me that warranty was like gold because otherwise without parts and labor being covered, I would have spent a considerably amount of money (I estimate over $2000) in repairs. If all I had was a parts warranty, I would have spent (I estimate) around $1000 for labor to install the parts and recharge the system. 2001 - System installed but the head installer didn't know that he had a valve closed at the outside unit and couldn't figure out why the system wasn't working correctly. Later that day, another tech came over and opened the valve and the system started working. 2001 - After complaining about deficiencies in the installation, the contractor sent another crew out and they worked all day to correct the shoddy installation left by the first crew. 2002 - 2004 - No Problems 2005 - 2007 - 6 service calls for: recharge the system twice, Replaced the defrost control circuit board and ambient sensor, replaced the expansion valve, left wire off during the repair and system fail to operate correctly - replaced wire to fix, replace the indoor evaporator unit (would have cost me $$$$ without warranty). 2008 - 2009 - no problems

"CONSIDERING TRANE TOP-OF-THE-LINE"
Wow...i thought Trane was it! All the bad reviews on the new units just creep me out. We have three Ruud a/c units which are 23 years old. They run fine. Air handlers are rusted out and leaking...Considering 3 THREE new XL20i's to replace existing. All the negative comments about new equipment have me wondering about just keeping the old units and getting a fix on the condensation leaks.... Someone please help me understand why the newer units seem to suck?

"Trane XE 1200 Heat Pumps"
Purchased (2) xe 1200 4 ton units with variable speed air handler in May and June 2001. The compressor just went out on one of the units this week. I'm disappointed since I expected better performance from a Trane based on their reputation. I didn't realize the compressor was on the blink until we got our Jan electric bill. What a surprise. The unit was not shutting off and the heat strips we're on all the time. Not sure whether I'll replace this unit with another Trane but I am looking at other brands with a better warranty. I think it should have lasted more than 7 years especially given the price of the unit.

"Fair experience with Trane"
In August 2004 I bought a new Trane 4twx4042 Heat Pump and twe049 Air handler (variable speed) with 20kW electric heat - 93,000 btu heating capacity for a 2300 sq ft 2-2tory colonial. Initial results were very good: total heating and a/c costs were down about one third. But then, after two years, the control board in the compressor unit went out. The dealer/installer replaced it under warranty but he charged us nothing because he said it shouldn't have happened (his cost). Now, I'm finally trying to use the programmable thermostat to save some money on changing temperature from night to day but it isn't working the way it is supposed to be. The Aux heat comes on every time the unit heats up even one degree which is probably eliminating any energy saving during the night. So, I can't say I'm real impressed by the unit yet and I'm concerned with all the problems I see reported on this site.
