"The unit stinks"
I bought a heat pump xb13 and it is very expensive to run. I would never buy another one. The previous Carrier that was a 10 seer was twice as efficient to run. What a rip off!

"Sold on Trane"
I had a Trane unit installed in my house after a home addition 14 years ago. We had to upsize the unit because of the extra sq. footage. I have never had to do anything to this unit other than cleanings. If someone asked me, I would not hesitate to recommend this brand.

"Trane has been good to me so far."
My Trane packaged unit heat pump has only had one service call the last 8 years and that was for a defective thermostat that went out the first month. This unit replaced a Tempstar that developed a bad leak right after the warranty expired which burned out the compressor. My next unit will probably be a Trane, but I hope to get a few more years out of this old unit first.

"Admin. Coordinator"
Never had any repairs on the outside unit. Maintenance done every year with small repairs on the air handler. Installing a new unit in 2009. The air handler went out.

"Why do people lie, are they salespeople perhaps?"
In response to all of the obsurd comments about trane heatpumps being unreliable and extremely high priced, I have to say that the notes seem to be by people not knowing anything about trane, but merely are trying to badmouth the product. Beware anyone that praises another brand in the same breath. They may or may not be salespeople trying to mislead people towards what they sell. I read one review about a guy who paid about $22000 for an xl16 heat pump and had to replace the main compressor twice. The xl16 heat pump only has one compressor. It is a single 2 stage compressor. The XL19i or XL20i heatpumps have 2 seperate compressors, but the 16 seer units are all single compressor units. If someone is bashing a unit that they have had to repair, shouldn't they know what they have had to repair. My XL14i works great as have all trane heat pumps that I've run across. I am an installer/service tech myself and have never had any major problems with anything trane. If I do though the tech support team is extremely supportive, and respond same day. The flat top on the unit saves me much grief, when freezing rain is causing fan blades on other heatpumps to freeze when they shut- off. Simple design, but a huge benefit.

"We have been satisfied so far!"
We had to replace 15 yr old Trane unit and air handler 2 yrs ago. We used the local Trane dealer to install the XL16i unit. So far, no complaints. In fact our other air handler is dying right now, so we are looking at replacing that 17 yr old air handler and 6 yr old 10 seer pump with a new 15 or 16 seer Trane. I believe the installers can make a big difference. Make sure your lines are new or get flushed out from the old 22 refrigerant to the new 410!

"Pleased with Trane"
Purchased a Trane xl1400 split system heat pump in Oct. 1996. Serviced 2x a year, condenser removed and cleaned once in 13 years. Parts replaced in 13 years: Compressor start capacitor, compressor contactor. Last week we learned the condenser had a refrigerant leak. We were quoted $1900 to replace it. Figuring it might be good money after bad, we opted to replace the system w/ an XL15i. Read the remarks of the HVAC contractor regarding system problems following installation. I have to agree. The contractor we chose for the XL 1400 and the XL15i operates a separate installation division; it's all they do. And I have to say they do their job well, which is why I did not hesitate to buy from them again.

"do your research!"
This is a reply to r davis... Sounds like your problem needs to be taken up with the contractor not TRANE. If you would have had a Trane comfort specialist install the system they would have known that the XL16i CAN'T be used with zoning. If installed properly your energy bills will be lower. My advice is to call the Trane Comfort Specialist that you passed up because they were too much money and have them tell you what is wrong with the install.

"Trane is the best"
I am a idependent hvac contractor in portsmouth Va. and have the opertunity to sell any brand a/c units we want. In our industry when units break down after we install them the manufactures do not pay us to fix them. Therefore its in our best interest to sell ones that do not have problems. I installed a XL16i heap pump in my personal house 3 years ago and it exceeded even my expectations and we sell hundreds of these systems every year, so it takes alot. Trane is by far the best brand but if it's installed improperly it's not going to work. The installation is even more important than the brand you buy. Unfortunately it's a proven statistic that 90% of the systems that have been installed since the mid 1990's are installed improperly. That will explain why some people on this site are very happy and most are not. (Also people tend to complain more than they commend) Trane has its share of problems ( anything that is made by man does) but I can assure anyone that they are far fewer than any other brand. Do you homework on the contractor you are going to do business with. Check the bbb, check references, check their customer satisfaction score through trane. And last remember the cheapest contractor is almost never the best. Thank you, and take my word for it Trane is the best unit built.

"Quality...20 years old, working good."
My trane is 20 years old and is working great, and I live in Tampa, fl, so it takes a beating...I Am going to replace both units this year only because of the sier rating (I would like to have a 16 sier rating), and the $1500 tax deduction that is being offered. I will probably sell my old unit because it is still in great working shape. By the way, I am guilty of not having it serviced every year like I should, but it still works.
