"trane 2 ton losers"
I have two of these units, plenty of trouble in the seven years I have owned them, (new home installed by builder). Now at 7 years, they both crap out. inner coil leak on one, have not had service call on other yet. I will cannibalize one of these losers, stick the junk leftover in my garage for parts and buy one other brand.

"Don't buy a Trane"
5 years ago we needed to replace our heat pump. We went with a Trane because we had believed it to be the best. We have to have it fixed every year since we had it installed. The second year we had it, the computer went out the hottest week of the year.Even though the warranty covered the $1000 bill, we had to suffer without air for 2 weeks. I live in South Carolina where the summers are very hot. I regret ever buying a Trane. I would never recommend it to my friends. Their slogan needs to be changed from "Its hard to stop a Trane" to "Its hard to stop a Trane from breaking"

"Avoid this lemon (Trane XL14i)"
The Trane XL14i we replaced our previous Trane with has been a real lemon ... The air handler has never delivered a truly balanced heat or cool through the house...large variances despite attempts to adjust ducting valves. In only 4 years the following have broken: yr 2 - defrost board after only 2 years yr 3 - power diode after only 3 years yr 4 - TOTAL CORE BREACH, requiring complete replacement Apparently broke in Feb, with no indication of a problem. Caused 2x normal electric bill. Worse yet, instead of replacing the entire unit they are forcing the Willis installer to only replace the condensor, so while the parts are covered, I get hit with a $1150 labor bill for the multiple hours the job will take.

"Stinks"
My 1 year old XR-15 has Dirty Sock Syndrome (DSS) verified by my installer. Trane will replace the coil if I pay for shipping and installation. Installer gave me 2 year labor waranty, but won't honor it due to large expense of installing. (4-5 hrs) Claims he did not plan on any repair that would consume this much time. So, he won't even order the coil, since I have only offered to pay $125. This has been going on since Feb. 11. Trane won't harness THEIR dealer. Their brochure is full of customer guarantees, but they don't really care.

"Not Satisfied."
Have two XB12 units. The first had a compressor failure at the 4 year mark. The second units compressor failed at the 5 year mark. Both expansion valves failed at 5 years. When they work they are good units just made with poor substandard materials.

"Hard to START a Trane"
I have a XL 15 for about 4 yrs now. First the fan motor went out but was covered under warranty. The the TXV stopped up and killed my compressor. Two years later leak. And yesterday the varable speed blower motor module went out. Too much money for so many problems. Believe it or not I miss my old nordyne

"Caveat Emptor"
Bad news from the word go. Bad install which had to have many aspects reworked on several service calls. Don't think the wiring would pass code if I had an inspector look at it. Installer/maintainer sent us a bill for the work - needed to be "reminded" we have a 10 yr service contract. Two neighbors across the street both got heat pumps the same time we did, and they too are experiencing endless maintenance calls (and one enormous electric bill due to a malfunction). Can't believe there isn't a class action law suit against Trane.

"Don't waste your money"
We have a small 1350 sq foot house in eastern New Mexico. 2 bedrooms at the opposite end from the heat-pump weren't getting heat nor air-conditioning, so when we had to replace our old Trane units we were told to get a bigger unit (more expensive). It has made no difference, so we still have electric heaters and fans in these 2 rooms. The heat pump is completely inefficient when the weather drops below 40 degrees. It takes from 45 min. to 4+ hours to increase just 2 degrees on the thermostat. During the 2 weeks of extreme Feb.cold weather, the heater never reached thermostat temps and ran continuously for 2 weeks, and again, we are waiting for the Trane serviceman. We've had to move the portable heater into our living room. We've had this unit for 5 years and have to have the Trane serviceman out in winter after very cold weather has hit!
