"understand your warranty"
Stop!! bashing equipment and read before you agree. If you do not buy the extended warranty and your unit breaks down, that s your mistake. The unit has a standard 5 years part 5 or 10 compressor warranty and key words 1 year labor warranty. Extended warranty covers 10 years parts and key word 10 years labor. Heat pumps like everything are no long built to last like your 20 plus year old units, wake up, tires, cars, lights nothing is built to last like it use too. Read people Read and understand what you are getting

"Existing Trane XL1200 Heat Pump"
I had a G.E. Weatherton heat pump installed in my home in 1978. G.E. later sold the Weathertron unit to Trane. It worked beautifully and never a problem. A good installer does make a difference and yes it cost more but was worth every penny. In 1992 I had the outdoor compressor replaced as a precaution and not because it broke down. Here it is 2010 (18 years later) and it is still working beautifully. I plan to replace this with a newer system as the entire unit is over 30 years old with the exception of the outdoor compressor. I live in the colder climate of northeastern Pennsylvania and plan to replace my Trane heat pump unit with another more energy efficient Trane hybrid unit. The dealer is expensive but also excellent and the unit has provided me over 30 years of trouble-free service. Trane is a great product but the installing dealer is what makes it a better than great product.

"Dont blame just trane"
I am a professional in the hvac industry. I myself installed the trane XL16i in my home a few years ago. Have had not one problem because it is installed correctly. All equipment makers do the same with the parts warranties by making the consumer pay for the labor. so by bashing trane for this you may want to look into others. i promise you will find the same result. Other companies i promise u will use the "warrany" more than you would like. What good is a warranty ff you have to use it all the time. It is also true that a majority of equipment failures are due to improper design and installation. Do your homework before deciding on a contractor. When things are cheap they are cheap for a reason. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!.i will recommend trane from a pressional stand point until they give me a reason not to. i have installed it in my parents home as well as my own. So before the rest of you make your ignorant remarks, read up on everything and dont blame the equipment maker for your poor decision making on a shady dealer.

"Good heat pump!"
This Weathertron 800 unit has worked flawlessly for 20 years so I guess it is pretty good. Don't know anything about new ones though.

"Excellent"
Bought xl1200 packaged unit 9 years ago and never been worked on till last month when the balance weights flew off the blower fan which had to be replaced. Would not purchase from Sears again because they were so slow in responding.

"Mr."
This 20I heat pump is great and efficient. Get your Trane unit installed by factory trained people and that's it. Choose the right dealer to begin with!
