"Piece of Shi*****"
I'd never get a Ruud again! I've lived in a brand new house since 2007. I've had no stop problems with both of my heat pumps for upstairs and downstairs! It's been leaking freon since 2011, and I was told it wasn't under warranty! I had a Carrier (1 unit) in New Jersey and it never gave us a problem! More expensive but saves you money and aggravation in the long run! And if you live in Birmingham, NEVER use Darden Green or Trinity!!!

"Ruud Heat Pump Manufacturer Defect = Dead in 8 Years"
This unit has been finicky ever since we bought this house in 2008. The thing is only 8 years old and our HVAC service tech told us that the two lines rubbing together (which is a flaw in itself) caused holes to appear and all the refrigerant to leak out. He also told me that Ruud (at that time) didn't install an automatic shut-off switch in the unit. This means that the unit kept running and running with no refrigerant, and it sucked air in through the holes in the broken refrigerant lines and contaminated the oil. I have yet to be able to find anyone to contact at Ruud or Rheem to discuss this, which is clearly a manufacturing defect. A heat pump system that is $5k to replace should last longer than 8 years. Also, our tech told us that NOW these Ruud units ARE installed with automatic shut-off switches because so many of them were breaking within the 5-year warranty window. So again, Ruud is responsible for putting a defective product on the market and I am trying like hell to get them to replace mine.

"RUUD Will Not Stand By Their Product!"
We purchased a new ruud Heat-Pump unit from Precision Air and Heating and the company did not stand behind the product they sell. From Photos taken, the unit clearly had a manufacturing / quality issue. Note! This unit was only about 17 months old. Precision nor ruud, the manufacturer, would not take responsibility for the manufacturing issue which allowed two refrigerant lines to rub together, causing a leak in one of the lines and releasing all the of the refrigerant. This defect was clearly due to manufacturing, as the photos taken by the service tech indicate. We contacted ruud but they refused to reimburse any of the costs. They stated that because the unit was not serviced that they would not stand behind the defect in workmanship. When talking with Precision Air’s Customer Service Manager he too agreed the two lines touching would not have been seen during an annual ac Tune Up. According to Precision Air this was not a failure of a component or due to lack of service. We should have been have been reimbursed by both Precision Air and ruud. Neither happened. beware: ruud does not stand by their product.

"owner"
Unit is RQPM-A024. In less than 2 years we lost the indoor fan motor and evaporator coil. The new coil that was installed was defective ( the metal plate that hold the coil to cabinet was loose on tubing. The coil can move causing the copper tubing to wear and leak. After trying to cotact Rudd with no reaponce we will be left with the cost to replace this when it leaks. Evaporator coils should never be made this way (junk from some other county). Our dealer has had no luck with Rudd.

"RUUD Heat Pump"
Had a 20 year old Ruud that had to add freon nearly every year. Heated and cooled fine. December 20, 2010 bought a new Ruud unit 4 ton upql- 048jez with an Emerson programmable thermostat. February 2011 had to replace the upper circuit board and week later the thermostat had to be replaced, service calls on 2-01-11, 2-03-11, 2-10-11 finally fixed. 7-30- 12 had to replace coil because it had rusted and started leaking freon. 8-2-12, unit not cooling, added freon 9-04-12, water collecting in coil pan, ruined my ceiling 10-31-12, unit not heating, removed freon 12-12- 12, same problem, not heating, removed more freon 12-13-12, same problem, not heating, added 4 lbs. freon and replaced the thermostat for the 3rd time 12-18-12,unit run all time, would not go in defrost cycle, therefore no heat. This time serviceman found wire in the wrong place. Is going into defrost mode at the present. Hope I can get to 2013 with no more service calls. would I buy another ruud?????? Not ever!

"I've been Rheemed by Ruud!!!"
I was one of the idiots who got the 5 year warranty but it leaked on day one. Of course our brainiac installer bought a one way ticket to Costa Rica and we can't get any help from Ruud. $2,000+ later in service repairs and water damage caused by the rooftop package, it's safe to say this is the worst piece of crap we have ever invested in! Do yourself a favor and stay away from Ruud/Rheem!!

"RUUD Heat Pump has proven very undependable"
Installed this unit in Sept 2009. 2 1/2 years ago. I have had to have ruud techs out 5 times in 30 months. The last just leaving after replacing a new 4 way reversing valve. Warranty covered part. Labor was $400. Unit cost was over $6000.00. It has also had two leaks and poor heating. Last time I will ever buy ruud. Considering taking my loss and replacing it with a Trane. My last Trane last 18 years and was still running when I replaced it with this one. Boy did I goof.

"Shuts down every time it gets cold"
It breaks down every year. Have had to replace several parts. Has cost me over $1,500 just to keep it. And again yesterday now the fan won't work. I will never by this brand again. Going shopping for a new system tomorrow.
