"Bad Service"
I had payne unit 6 and half years ago. The unit was installed by Hazel Heat and Air. I had problems about 3 to 4 years go in winter time the unit runs up to degree you stand don't cut off . Fan keeps blowing out cold instead of hot . Meter on home steady runs up power bill. With problems with Hazei company, had to get Wilsons in Pomaria, S.C. to come out and fix. They did a great job something on the unit went bad also the lines had a blockage Hazel never put filters in freon lines. Now I am having the same problems again. I have a Goodman unit on the 2nd floor never had a problem except the didn't install and line filters also and very low air flow in the vents because the way they installed them. stay away from Hazel go Wilson if in my area of S.C.

"4 years of good service"
We have 3 Payne 2006 model heatpumps. They all cool and heat great. The temperature manages to stay within 1-2 degrees year round. In the summer the humidity stays under 50%. We once had a leak in the evaporator of the 3 ton unit; it was covered under warranty. Later on the 2 ton unit began blowing out thermostat fuses, we had someone repair the fualty wiring. Laer down the road, someone steped on the liguid line and the unit developed a leak at a bolt type connection. The connection hadn't been tightend like it should during installation. After having those problem fixed the heatpumps work great again. They get the coils cleaned every 6 months, the blower every year and the filter are replaced as neccessary since they cost about $9 a piece.

"only minor repair ($25) in six years"
Entire system installed Dec 2003. Only problems have been with the contractor - which is inexpensive and easily serviced by any competent diy person. The first failure was caused by a bug that crawled into its contacts and got fried (this was my first shot at "debugging" a heat pump, this time quite literally), and the second time its low voltage coil shorted out and blew the fuse on the control board. Aside from that, my unit seems to have the same pluses and minuses of previous heat pumps I've lived with. Sounds like a lot of the problems reported here are due to the installers, not the product.

I have changed my review for the better. I found out the problem with my outdoor coil icing over. The defrost temp sensor was located on the inlet side of the outdoor coil which was telling the defrost board that the coil was defrosted already when it was not. I moved the sensor to the return side of the coil. The outside coil was completely frosted over and on the first defrost cycle after I moved the sensor, the coil almost completely defrosted after remaining in the dft mode for the max of 10 minutes. The unit is defrosting the way it is supposed to now. My unit came from the factory that way with the sensor in the wrong location. I will review my unit again later. By the way, mine is a 3 ton ph3z which is the all-in-one unit.

I have owned my heat pump for 8 yrs the only problem I had was with the defrost solenoid switch to witch I changed myself. It is a very simple unit to fix. Shop online to find parts and save hundreds of $$$$$

With the exception of a defrost solenoid it performs great.
